Children and youth with developmental or intellectual delays/disorders (DD) use Emergency Department (ED) 1.8 times more frequently than the general pediatric population. 1,2 This population of patients includes those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), or other conditions. This document provides recommendations for the medical approach to these patients to assist in optimizing care.
